I love a cryptic crossword. I’m no expert – The Times Quick Cryptic usually takes me about an hour, with the help of my wife!
I’ve recently been teaching my pupils how to solve them, gradually building up by focussing on one type of clue at a time and giving them lots of practice before moving on to the next type. I made this easy Christmas crossword to give them as their first whole crossword. It focusses on the types of clues they found easiest: hidden words, anagrams, first / last / regular letters and homophones, with a few language clues, a nod to the international context.
Whilst I am here, I thought I would upload the only other cryptic crossword I made: for my wedding. This one is more difficult, though the theme should give you some big hints.
